APPLIED BUSINESS

WHAT IS GCE APPLIED BUSINESS?

The fundamental philosophy of this specification is that, in order to understand the nature of Applied Business, candidates must actively experience the business world. The course uses actual business scenarios as the focus for the modules that are studied and students will be asked to investigate these organisations and complete portfolios on a set of predetermined tasks.

WHY SHOULD I STUDY APPLIED BUSINESS?

The AS and Advanced GCE in Applied Business have been designed to form qualifications which provide knowledge and understanding of this vocational area. They are ideal qualifications for those of you who want a broad background in Applied Business which will allow you to progress to further or higher education, training or employment.

USEFUL SKILLS & INTERESTS

You are asked to stay tuned to current, topical business news stories and to take an active interest in the business encounters that they face on a day to day basis. As with all AS/A’ level courses, hard work and commitment are a must as well as the ability to work in both group and individual situations. Personal organisation and the ability to meet strict deadlines are also very important.

COURSE STRUCTURE & CONTENT

Students can study either single or double award routes. Single award students take 6 units over two years which add up to a normal, single A’ Level, whilst double award students will study 12 units over 2 years adding up to the equivalent of two A’ levels.

Students will be asked to sign a departmental commitment form that sets out the expectations of the department detailing a two way agreement between staff and students based on hard work and dedication to the team ethos of the department.

COURSE COSTS

There are no course costs involved, unless special trips are organised. Usually visits to external organisations are free of charge however, over the past several years students in the Department have had the opportunity to attend the annual Business Studies Live event at Disney Land Paris at a costs of approx £150.00.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

You need to have met the standard college entry requirements of five GCSE grade C or above. Including a GCSE grade C or above in English and preferably Mathematics.
