GCSE LEVEL HEALTH, SOCIAL CARE AND EARLY YEARS SERVICE

WHAT IS THE COURSE ABOUT?

This is a DOUBLE AWARD course equivalent to two GCSEs. It aims to give you a good overview of the people who work in health, social care or early years settings and of the people who use the services provided.

WHY SHOULD I STUDY THE COURSE?

You should consider studying Health and Social Care if you have a genuine interest in people of all ages and all social backgrounds and you want to learn how to ensure they have as good a quality of life as possible.

USEFUL SKILLS & INTERESTS

To be successful on the course you will need:

to be willing to embrace a flexible approach to your own learning

a wish to develop the special strengths and qualities needed for work in the health, social care or early years sectors

COURSE STRUCTURE & CONTENT

You will study the following three units

Unit 1 - Health, social care and early year’s provision

Unit 2 - Promoting health and well-being

Unit 3 - Understanding personal development

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Assessment is a combination of coursework and tests. The coursework involves building up pieces of work completed during lessons and homework time. The course teacher will mark these. Tests are externally set and marked. Only one unit (Understanding Personal Development) is tested. You are allowed one re-sit of the test. Your test result and your portfolio work contribute points towards a total that determines your final grade.

COURSE COMMITMENT

You will need to have a high level of commitment as the course is very demanding. You will be expected to attend all lessons and meet all deadlines given for coursework.

COURSE COSTS

There may be a small charge for any outside visits you may make to cover the cost of transport.
