THEORY OF KNOWLEDGE

WHAT IS THEORY OF KNOWLEDGE?

Theory of Knowledge (TOK) for short is about the nature of knowledge. 

WHY SHOULD I STUDY (SUBJECT)?

TOK is part of the IB core, it will help you to study all your other subjects and give you a much broader understanding of knowledge itself.

USEFUL SKILLS & INTERESTS

TOK should give you some useful thinking skills and help you to think about the world from a broader range of perspectives.

COURSE STRUCTURE & CONTENT

·         What counts as knowledge?

·         How does knowledge grow?

·         What are the limits of knowledge?

·         Who owns knowledge?

·         What is the value of knowledge?

·         What are the implications of having or not having knowledge?

We will look at both ways of knowing and areas of knowledge.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

By a presentation and an essay, both in the second year.

COURSE COMMITMENT

You will need to be prepared to think and engage with others, the centre of this course is the knower or student.
