Exams
What to expect, and what to do if something goes wrong
Most external exams are in May and June. Some sit in October, November or January.

When and where
Your individual timetable comes to you and your parents through the Cedar portal and by email. It confirms dates, times, locations and the equipment you need.
Exams take place in college, usually in the sports hall or a designated classroom. Morning exams normally start at 9am and afternoon exams at 1.30pm. Arrive at your registration point at least 15 minutes before.
What you can and cannot take in
- Bring only permitted equipment, in a clear pencil case
- No phones, watches, earbuds, smart devices or notes
- Follow the invigilators and stay silent from the moment you enter the room
- Raise your hand if you need help or feel unwell
Having an unauthorised item with you can get your work cancelled even if you never intended to use it. Leave it outside.
Do I get extra time or a separate room?
If there is evidence of need, yes. Access arrangements include extra time, rest breaks, a reader, a scribe or use of a computer, in line with awarding body rules.
Arrangements you had at school do not transfer automatically. Tell us at enrolment, or speak to student services, the exams team or your tutor as early as you can.
What if I am ill on the day?
Contact the college on the day, as early as you can. We may be able to ask the awarding organisation for special consideration, and medical evidence is usually needed. Missing an exam without a valid reason can mean you do not get a grade.
Coursework and non-examined assessment
Some courses include work that counts towards your final grade. It has to be your own. Meet the deadlines your teacher sets and follow the awarding body rules. Malpractice can reduce your marks or affect the qualification.
Using AI
AI is a good study tool for explaining a difficult idea, testing yourself or generating revision questions. It is not a tool for producing work you hand in as your own. If you are unsure where the line is, ask your teacher before you submit.
Who to ask
For timetables, access arrangements, assessments or results day, speak to the exams team or student services.
