Support
Somebody whose job is you
Every student has a tutor from day one. Behind them sit specialist teams for wellbeing, learning support, careers and money.

Your main contact
Tutors
Every student has a tutor, your main point of contact for academic progress, wellbeing and guidance. You will meet regularly to discuss how things are going, and there are subject reviews and consultation evenings each year for you and your parents.

Learning support
Support for every learner
Our SEND and inclusion team works closely with students, families, schools and local authorities to make sure the right support is in place from the start. Support can include learning support assistants in lessons, personalised learning plans, exam access arrangements, small group and one-to-one support, and personal care where required. Find out more on our SEND and inclusion page or email SEND.Prior@atomix.ac.uk.
Tell us about your needs at application stage and we will start putting things in place before you begin.

SEN local offer
Open access college
Prior Pursglove is an open access college. We will always look for a course that works for you, regardless of your starting point, subject to suitability, funding and course availability.
You can also read the Redcar and Cleveland local offer for wider information and advice on SEND services in the area.

Wellbeing and identity

Wellbeing
Someone to talk to
We have therapeutic counsellors on site offering drop-in appointments and weekly sessions. If something’s getting in the way of you feeling okay, visit our wellbeing pages or email therapyservice@atomix.ac.uk.

Identity and inclusion
Be yourself
We are a college where you can be yourself. Our Therapy Service is available if you want someone to talk to, and our equality information and objectives (PDF) set out how we support every student.
Resources for parents
Equal opportunities
We aim to treat everyone equally and with respect, regardless of differences in culture, ability, race, gender, age, sexual orientation or social background.
Our equality information and objectives (PDF) are also on our policies page.
The five things support means here
- Your tutor. Your first point of contact for everything: how the work is going, how you are going, and what happens next. Subject reviews and consultation evenings run across the year for you and your parents.
- Safeguarding. Named safeguarding staff and an open door. If something is wrong, for you, for a friend, or at home, you can say so and it gets taken seriously. How safeguarding works here.
- Learning support. Dyslexia, dyspraxia, physical and sensory disabilities, hearing impairment, English as an additional language. One-to-one help, BSL communicators, personal care, specialist equipment and exam access arrangements. Tell us at application stage and everything is in place before you start.
- Exams. If you qualify for extra time, a separate room, a reader or a scribe, we apply to the exam board for you.
- Open access. We will always look for a course that works for you, subject to suitability, funding and availability. The council’s local offer explains the support available across the borough. Ask our support team about what we offer here.
