Student life

There is more going on than lessons

Enrichment sits inside your week rather than after it. That is the difference between something you might do and something you actually do.

Enrichment is on your timetable

You get an hour of enrichment a week, timetabled, free and open to everyone. You do not have to find time for it or pay for it.

What has run recently: sports teams, music groups, mindfulness, language clubs, debate, volunteering, and first aid and driving theory qualifications. Some weekly, some one-offs, all free.

If nothing on the list appeals, you can start your own with support from the student union and the enrichment team.

Creative

Gold Arts Award

Worth 16 UCAS points. You develop your own practice, lead a project and research the professional arts world. Open to anyone doing anything creative.

Have your say

The students’ union is led by an elected president and vice president and meets fortnightly. The events team runs the rest: charity fundraisers, lunchtime concerts, Alton Towers and the Bollywood fashion show. Past years have raised money for Children in Need, the Teenage Cancer Trust and Comic Relief. Members also get a TOTUM card.

Sport

Sports teams, a sports hall and a fitness suite that is free to every student. Fixtures run through the year against other colleges. You do not need to be on a sports course to take part.

Across the year

Trips, guest speakers, the progression fair, university taster days, work experience, and whatever the events team has decided to organise. Find out what is running at the Freshers’ Fayre in September.

Where people end up sitting

The dining areas and the student hub are where the day actually happens. Hot and cold food, a free breakfast bar if you are in early, and outdoor seating for the fortnight a year it is warm enough. Guisborough town centre is a two minute walk if you want to get off site.
