Our supported volunteer interns have been out in the community, restoring Red Lion Park in Redcar.
The park is a small community garden, and it is treasured by the older residents who live nearby. Looking after it is a way of giving something back to the people who value it most.
The interns set about weeding the planters and painting the benches and the sleepers. It was hands-on, outdoor work, and they all worked hard to get the job done.
They also enjoyed chatting to the residents about the garden as they worked, and they were pleased that their work was appreciated.
Volunteering like this gives our interns real experience of working alongside each other, taking on practical jobs and talking with members of the public, all in a setting outside college.
The supported volunteer internship is part of Endeavour, our department for students aged 16 to 24 who need additional support and a more personalised approach to learning. Every student is recognised as an individual, with support and opportunities shaped around their strengths, aspirations and needs.
Across Endeavour, work experience, volunteering and supported internships help students build workplace skills, gain experience and grow in independence. Find out more about Endeavour.
